Clifton, TN
It's been really nice to have so many nice travels days where the water is flat calm. It's just one less challenge in our planning.
The Tennessee River is beautiful. We're about 2 weeks early for the fall colors to begin to show.
We didn't stop here.
It has been a long time since I have driven the boat and today I took over for about 2 hours. It gave me something to do and it made the time go by faster and it gave Brent a break.
We arrived at Clifton Marina in the late afternoon and we were given a covered slip. We are getting spoiled being under cover but since it has been 90 degrees over the past several days any protection is welcomed.
To our surprise John and Marilyn (right side) from Blue Goose were in Clifton. We haven't seen them since New York. We first met them in Fort Myers. It was nice catching up with them and we probably will travel together some down the Tenn Tom.
The gentleman on the left is Gene and he owns the marina. Gene was a pharmacist in his early career and previously served two terms as a state representative. He is also the dockmaster, cook, custodian, store clerk and greeter. He does everything he can to make you feel welcomed (as do all of the locals who visit the marina).
Brent really enjoyed visiting with these two guys. His only disappointment was when one of the locals promised to bring him some moonshine (he called it Tennessee spring water) the next morning but didn't show up before we left the dock. Thank God - the guy said it was 188 proof.
One of the nights we were in Clifton the marina hosted a sloppy joe dinner for all of us. We all pitched in and brought a side to go along. One of the couples brought this Spanish liqueur and the heavy cream. We had these little drinks back at one of the marinas in New York; they look like little beers when served in a shot glass.
This is the sloppy joe dinner. We haven't had sloppy joes since Key West at Sloppy Joes!
Believe it or not Alan Jackson and crew have been to this marina back in April of 2017.
This hand fan was also in the ship's store so I guess Willie has been here too!!
During this trip you come across all kinds of places. Some are just unexpected little treasures that add so much to the Loop experience. This was one of those places!
