Bridal Veil Falls and Gore Bay, ON

Along the way other Loopers have mentioned that they have stopped during their travels on a particular day for lunch and then continued to their destination.  We have always set our course and didn't stop until we were safely tied up for the day, until today.

About halfway to Gore Bay there was Mudge Bay on Manitoulin Island.  Down in this bay there was a destination called Bridal Veil Falls right outside the Village of Kagawong.  We haven't seen any waterfalls and thought it would be something different to see so we stopped in a VERY small marina and walked down to see the falls.  The marina allowed us to tie up for a few hours for free.

It was a very picturesque walk along the wooded trail to the falls.

Bridal Veil Falls - it was a worthy stop!

No, that's not us in the water. Its still too darn cold for people from south Texas. The falls are about 35 feet high.

Cute, small church on our quest to see the falls. Its know as the Sailor's Church and was built about 120 years ago.

Look at the pulpit. It has quite a tragic history if you learn its story.

Though its difficult to read above, you can probably google the sad story of the 30 foot pleasure cruiser RHU and its tragic sinking on August 25, 1965. The bow of the boat was salvaged two years later by the residents of Kagawong from its resting place on the north shore of Manitoulin Island. Heartbreaking story.

Second Wave, of course, passed by the location of the wreck on our next course to Gore Bay. The shoal is now well marked.

Small beach by the marina.

On to our final destination for the day, Gore Bay!

Cool benches in the marina with maple leaf cutouts in them.

If it's not an ice cream shop, it's a brewery stop!!  Seems like everyone has their own craft beer! We first had one of the brews from Split Rail back in Little Current and decided to visit the brewery when we were in Gore Bay.

I didn't drink all 3, only the darkest one was mine!!

Brent drank all the rest....

Look closely....there are 2 deer feasting on the apples of this tree.  They were the tallest deer we have ever seen in our lives.  They definitely are not Texas white tail deer!

Many of the small towns we visit have hand painted murals on the sides of buildings in their downtown areas. All, of course, are done by local artists and are a source of pride for their communities. We always enjoy them too.
