Lady Liberty and the Manhattan Skyline

The picture above is one of the "must do's" when cruising the Great Loop. It is a bit surreal when you are that close to the Statue of Liberty on the water. She can take your breath away.

But before you reach the Statue when traveling north up the Hudson River, you must pass through "the Narrows". This is a narrow section of the Hudson River that flows beneath the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and where the current was about 2 knots on our nose as we came through. This is the gateway to Manhattan. In this picture above, the Statue is several miles ahead on the left. She comes into view as you pass beneath the bridge.

Wow, and there she is!

The Manhattan skyline is another amazing experience from the water. The center of attention in the above picture is One World Trade Center also called The Freedom Tower. She is 1776 feet tall and was built at Ground Zero. Later in the week, Brent and I went to the top of that tower and took some great photos of the City from above.

Now playing second fiddle in the picture below is the Empire State Building.

Another view of Lady Liberty as we cruised along side of her.

We traveled about 30 miles up the Hudson River to a marina called Half Moon Bay in Croton on Hudson, NY. From there were would spend several days exploring New York City, NY. But, today's introduction to NYC was very exciting.
