Delaware City, DL
After timing the right direction of the tide through the C & D Canal and waiting for the fog to lift, we arrived in Delaware City after a very easy couple of hours. The marina basically consisted of a very long dock that you pulled up to on your starboard side and when the current in the narrow canal switched, the dockhands manually turned each boat around so you would be facing the correct direction in the morning for the outgoing tide.
To be off of the Chesapeake Bay was cause for a toast!
At 5:01pm everyday one of the dockhands gives a weather and wave briefing for crossing the Delaware Bay. (See below) The following day, other than some fog, looked very calm with all the boxes checked to travel south down the bay.
Below is a chart that allows you to calculate wave heights based on wind speed and fetch (the distance wind travels over water).
On the docks they were unloading trash and loading food and supplies on the crew boats that drive the barges in Delaware Bay. They stay away from port for weeks at a time.
Another short walk into town didn't amount to much because most shops were closed, again. Lewinsky's on Clinton was open and that evening they were featuring Drag Queen Karaoke. We chose to skip that event.
That's Meg and I after we all came back from a quick tour of the town (and the ice cream shop).
