Gainesville Anchorage
It seems like we are vacillating between cleaner water and very muddy water these days. The scenery also seems like it goes from something quite interesting and pleasant to look at to nothing as we weave through the Tenn Tom as shown above.
Brent has realized that he likes the break he gets when I drive the boat. Today I was celebrating yesterday's Red Raider win over TCU with wearing my Tech T-shirt.
As we pulled into our last of three locks today we were greeted with half the lock filled with water hyacinth. Although it floats on the surface we don't need any of this wrapping around our prop or rudder. The lockmaster warned us about a floating tire just beneath the surface below the vegetation. We also saw several bottles, a cooler, and several logs!
Thank you Blue Goose for slicing through the salad so we could follow in your tracks. Unfortunately there were logs within the foliage too. We escaped without any problems.
Immediately after the Gainesville Lock we turned into our anchorage for the day. It was only going to be us and Blue Goose there for the night so we had plenty of space.
It was so peaceful and calm as you can see and it only got calmer as the evening wore on, which is a good thing when we anchor. The temperature was going to be in the mid 50s so cool sleeping weather!!
We could hear the springs trickling down the rocks into the water.
After dark we went outside and the sky was huge. A little slice of moon shown over the water and there were a million stars. I even saw a shooting star. I hadn't seen one of those since our Canyon Lake days.
The image above is a screen shot of our anchor alarm app on Brent's phone. An alarm will sound if we drift beyond a certain point (which usually means that your anchor is dragging - not good).
You can see the Lock in the upper right of the photo. The anchorage we're in is marked in the middle of the purple circle. As you can see, its in a small channel off of the main Tenn Tom and well protected from passing barges. Not only was it peaceful but the anchor came up clean the next morning!
