Lock #2 - Waterford to Lock #7 - Schenectady, NY (Flight of Five)
As we left the Welcome Center Lock #2 was immediately upon us (Lock #1 was back on the Hudson River just north of Albany, NY). Locks 2 - 6 raised you 34 feet each and were spaced very close together. It was a pretty but very warm day and I was exhausted and wondered how so many women that are older than myself were able to do this??
We're the first boat in the Lock in the picture below (looking back from Second Wave) - that's usually where all the swift current is!
This is a guard gate; looks ominous.
Again, we've lost track of the number of bridges that we've past beneath. But, this was a pretty one along the Erie Canal between the day's Locks.
Lock # 7 lifted you 27 feet and shortly after that (even though we had only traveled 12 miles) we were done for the day and we stopped in Schenectady, NY.
Yes, that's the "Yacht Club" below.
We tried to hang out at the pool that evening but just as we did the rain came down so back to the boat we went. We are just not destined to go swimming on this trip!!
There were several "Looper" boats that joined us that evening. We planned an early start the next morning as set out for Amsterdam, NY.
