Third corner of the Colonial Triangle - Yorktown, VA
Yorktown, VA
The battel of Yorktown was fought in October of 1781. It was the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War.
We took a guided tour of the battle field with one of the park rangers and learned about the tactics used by both sides. How Washington marched his army from New Jersey to Yorktown, how he learned of the French fleet sailing up the Chesapeake, and why the British commander Cornwallis didn't escape when he had the time. We were also reminded of the important role the French played in winning this siege and ultimately the war.
After all that history we were hungry.
