Georgia on my mind-Brunswick to Savannah, GA

We spent 5 days in Brunswick, GA due to wind and what else, a rainy weather system. This is the Sidney Lanier Bridge that guards the entrance into Brunswick Landing Marina. We passed beneath and made an immediate turn to starboard and up a river to the marina.

Back to coats and jeans.  We're loosing our Florida tan!

We found this beautiful old wooden sailboat for sale as we motored up the river channel.

At this marina they had some really nice offerings.  There was free beer everyday all day, free wine MWF during happy hour hosted by the marina, FREE laundry facilities, and an alpha library that covered the entire wall.

Virtually all marinas have a "cruiser's library". You take a book and leave a book for others to enjoy. This library is by far the most extensive we've seen. It was continued in two other "satellite" lounges.

The Georgia tide swings are unbelievable - 8 feet every 6 hours. The pic below is at low tide and you get a workout just walking up the ramp.  At high tide it has a slight decline in it.

We haven't seen Shrimp Boats since we left Louisiana until we saw these in Brunswick, GA.

We've seen signs educating (and warning) boaters about manatees all throughout Florida and all the way up the east coast so far. However, apparently, we now have to be concerned about North Atlantic Right Whales!

Our delicious dinner at Basil's in Brunswick.

Numerous historical homes in the downtown area of Brunswick.

We found this sign about 5 blocks into downtown.

This is the old City Hall building of Brunswick.

Was an easy walk to church this week!

Really...another barge, in GEORGIA!!

Scenery is definitely changing as we head north through GA to Sunbury Crab Company for the night. Where did the palm trees go?

Had to pass through Hell Gate on our way to Savannah.  It is a narrow and shallow cut that you must go through at high tide because the water is too shallow otherwise.  We couldn't leave the marina until 11 that morning so we could be there at high tide.  Timing is everything!!

Lots of pretty and expensive homes traveling near Savannah.  Nice change of scenery!

Look carefully on the right hand side of the chart plotter! You'll only see something like that in Georgia - unbelievable.

When we arrived in Savannah, we stayed at Thunderbolt Marina. There were some very large yachts there also and the marina is also a full service boat yard.

Second Wave could be a dinghy to some of these mega-yachts.

At Thunderbolt Marina (near Savannah) they delivered a half dozen Krispy Kreme donuts at 7am to the boat for free!  Nice perk and very yummy!
